Safe Label System Media

With the goal of increasing patient safety, Codonics has created the Safe Label System.  In the operating room, there are often multiple syringes filled and ready for immediate use.  Once these syringes are filled and separated from their vials and set on the cart, it is impossible to know for certain what is in them.  Writing labels by hand with a marker by hand is possible, but it could allow for error, especially with similar drug names.  The Safe Label System helps prevent errors.  Simply scan the vial barcode when filling the syringe for a color printed label for each syringe.  For added safety, drug names are printed with TALLMan letters (e.g. EPINEPHrine), color coded and include who filled it and when.  The labels can also included custom expiration times, dilutions and diluents.  At the time of the injection, the 2D barcode can be scanned and the SLS will display a visable and audio announcement of the drug.  New drug formulary can be pushed to the system over the network.

Many safety standards exists for vials to prevent drug errors.  Please help extend these safety standards to syringes to prevent errors and improve patient safety.

The Codonics Safe Label System has won the 2014 Medical Design Excellence Award. Click here for more info.
